The Wawarrawarri Bon-Bon

DOONSIDE STATION, WESTERN SYDNEY

2023 Darug & Darkinjung Artist Adam Laws

Doonside Station Youtube Video

Doonside station sits on the Ancestral lands of the Wawarrawarri people of the Darug Nation. When the Wawarrawarri capture cockatoos, nets made up of stringy bark are set up between two trees. A returning boomerang is thrown with precision and a plan, with the birds flocking towards the net and being caught in the ensuing chaos.

This artwork depicts this traditional hunting practice and is encased in overall imagery representing the bon-bon, or festive cracker – a nod to the artists present day connections and celebrations in the area.
