About Adam Laws
Adam Laws is a Darug and Darkinjung artist whose public art practice creates points of recognition and connection, bringing cultural, ecological and community narratives into contemporary shared spaces.
Raised within an extended family of cultural knowledge holders and artisans, Adam began painting at a young age. His early work included illustrations to his family’s published Dreamtime storybooks, Kootear the Echidna and Wargan the Crow.
His practice continued to develop across painting, drawing and sculpture, alongside years of travel and engagement with cultural landscapes in Australia and abroad.
In recent years Adam’s public artworks have appeared throughout Greater Sydney, including works for Merrylands Civic Square, Nepean Hospital, Lachlan’s Line, public transport stations, and the renewal of Paul Keating Park in Bankstown.
Adam’s works respond to the immediate environmental and social character of each location, drawing on First Nations knowledge and local ecologies and histories to accurately reflect the identity of a place.
